Mistletoe (sometimes called Devil's fuge or Allheal) is thought of, at least nowadays, as the decorative plant you might kiss a hot date under during the holiday season. While mistletoe has always been associated with romance, the uses and symbolism of this poisonous plant throughout history are quite interesting and versatile.

Mistletoe's significance pre-dates Christianity and Christmas tradition and is known in Norse mythology as the material from which Loki crafted the spear that killed Baldr, the god of light and beauty. In Greek mythology, Aeneus used mistletoe (called "The Golden Bough") to allow him to descend into Hades to be advised by his dead father.

My beaded mistletoe, while it's made from beads and wire and embroidery thread, is crafted with lots of love and good intentions!

Mistletoe is known from a magical perspective as an "all purpose plant". Use it as a charm to hang in your home as a symbol of protection or to banish any evil that may enter. Kiss your love under it often to maintain romance and a strong relationship. Hang your mistletoe by your bedroom door to bring restful sleep and pleasant dreams. When it's placed in a baby's bedroom, it protects children from being stolen by fairies and replaced with changelings (you know, if you're worried about that kind of thing...)! Mistletoe is said to ward of sickness and disease. Looking for more self love? Hang your mistletoe up somewhere where you'll see it every day as a reminder to be a little more gentle and compassionate towards yourself. Real-life mistletoe is green all year, making it a great symbol of revitalization and reminder of ever-present fertility and hope, especially in the dreary winter months.

Every sprig is finished off with a beaded loop for hanging, a satin ribbon bow, and a cat-eye glass star bead.
